At Betterfelt, we’re known for our Fair Trade certified felted wool slippers, but did you know we also have a line of home products?
And just like our slippers add a little hygge to your step, our home products will add hygge to your home and everyday life. We’ll show you how.
But first, you might be wondering...
What is hygge?
Hygge is a Danish concept that means fostering a sense of coziness, contentment, and well-being. In its essence, hygge is a special feeling or moment…like that feeling when you put on your wool felt slippers! Danes use the adjective “hyggelig” to describe products and events (from solo coffee drinking to meeting friends and family, all the way up to big parties) that bring them joy and hygge.
It’s a concept that’s grown in popularity in North America over the last decade and we’re so happy it has!
Betterfelt’s “hyggelig” home products and how you can use them
Like our slippers, all our home products are Fair Trade certified. They are made from 100 per cent natural wool by our team of skilled artisans at our company-owned workshop in Nepal:
1. The Betterfelt Cat Cave
As any cat owner with a pair of our slippers know, cats LOVE felted wool (find out why in our previous blog). Another thing cats love? Small cozy spaces to hang out in.
Though there are many products on the market that aim to give your cat a cozy space to hang out in, many are large, obtrusive and not the, uh, nicest to look at. The Betterfelt Cat Cave embodies the principles of Danish design and is simple, unobtrusive, and effective.
Because it’s attractive, our cat cave can be placed anywhere in your home where your kitty likes to hang out.
It will bring a little hygge to your home, and to your cat!
2. Betterfelt’s Wool Felt Storage Baskets
A cluttered space? Not very hyggelig.
You know the old saying, “cluttered space, cluttered mind”? In some spaces in your home, like entry ways, closets, and bedrooms, it’s easy for miscellaneous items to pile up.
That’s where our felted wool storage baskets come in.
Sized at 12 ½” by 11”, these practical baskets can be used for almost anything and placed almost anywhere in your home.
Here are just a few examples:
- Use it as a paper recycling basket in your home office.
- Use it to store books or magazine by the couch.
- Keep it by the entry way to hold items like umbrellas, scarves, mitts etc.
- Use it for extra storage on shelves and in your closet.
- Use it to keep toys off the floor in the kids’ bedrooms or living rooms.
The possibilities are endless!
Our baskets are available in a variety of different colours to suit your decor:

3. The Betterfelt Trivet
It’s a lazy sunny Sunday, and you’re relaxing with a cup of your favourite coffee or tea.
This is among the most quintessential hyggelig activities.
But what’s not hyggelig? Discovering water or heat damage on your nice counter tops from your hot teapot.
That’s where our beautiful, practical trivets come in. They’ll protect your table and counters from hot pots, pans and other dishes and add hygge.
Made of 100 per cent natural wool that’s hand felted, these will become a staple in your kitchen. They are also great for putting small house plants on, or other items that can cause damage to your surfaces.
Betterfelt trivets are available in a variety of shapes and colours:

No matter which of our home products you choose, or how you decide to use them, you can feel good knowing they were made fairly. Your home won’t only look great, but you can feel great about it too.
It doesn’t get more hyggelig than that.
